    1. Hello Michael,

A preliminary diagnosis for your condition would be Yin Deficiency, which translates to a decreased level of blood and fluid around the body, causing body heat to be trapped. It can be due to hormonal and lifestyle habits. TCM and acupuncture will be able to help. However, we will need a proper consultation to confirm this diagnosis.

      Hope this helps!

  5. Hello, thanks for opening this up for discussion.

My wife has been dealing with what we call a chronic sinus infection. We have recently returned from south carolina to the midwest, and the dryness of being indoors with the heat on has really excaserbated her symptoms. She feels swollen all the way from the top of her head down to her chest. Her sleep has become very disturbed to the point where it is making it really hard for me to sleep next to her. Any help would be greatly appreciated she has been dealing with this for years!

    1. Hello Andrew,

Greetings from PULSE and thank you for your enquiry!

The chronic phlegm/mucus accumulation in the nasal, throat and airways may be making her swollen, affecting her breathing and thus also disturbing her sleep. It would be beneficial to have a consultation first to understand her constitution, and then identify the root cause of the problem. She might then be able to try herbal medication and/or acupuncture to clear the phelgm and improve her sleep.

Hope this helps, have a great day ahead!

  7. I have previously taken Seven Forest’s Cinnamon & Rehmannia for my ovarian cysts, and it always helped. I recently just had my first child, and I never took it while pregnant, but I am wondering if it is safe to take while breast-feeding?

    1. Hello Rachael,

Cinnamon is a common food ingredient that has been consumed by breastfeeding mothers, while Rehmannia is a traditional herb that has not been contraindicated for consumption by lactating mothers.

A critical factor to consider is the quality and preparation methods by the manufacturer/supplier. It is important that the manufacturer of these herbs has not contraindicated it for lactating mothers. Also, it is important that this preparation is free from any unsafe compounds, e.g. heavy metals.

Assuming that the above concerns are not an issue, then it should be acceptable to consume this supplement while breastfeeding. However, do highlight this consumption to your family physician or paediatrician as necessary.

      Hope this helps!

  9. I am suffering from a facial spasm that started as an intermittent twitching eye and has progressed tower 18months to a spasm from my eye to my jaw. The doctor said, ” come back when you can’t stand it any more and I can arrange Botox injections.” Internet research has given me the name Hemifacial spasms. I would like to investigate acupuncture as a solution. What advice can you give me?

    1. Hello Meidy,

Hemifacial spasm is caused by a compression of the facial nerve due to multiple reasons. It is involuntary and will require treatment, acupuncture, acupressure (which helps relax the nerve), and herbal medication with anti-epileptic effects to help alleviate the condition and reduce the frequency of the spasms.

However, frequent and consistent treatment is recommended to see results. Hope this helps and wishing you a speedy recovery!

  10. Hi, I have been having a headache on one side of my head. I think it may be due to the aircon in my office too cold and blowing directly above me. What is the recommended treatment?

  12. Hi, my husband and I have been trying for a baby for the past 3 years. We went through fertility checks and I have been told that my body has a higher percentage of Natural Killer (NK) cells which eats up the formation of new cells (for example, an embryo if there is successful implantation). Doctors suggest SO-IUI for us both.

We would like to explore alternatives. Would TCM be able to help with fertility issues? What would the cost be like?

    1. Hello Anna,

TCM employs the concept of Body Balancing to help with fertility issues. The physician will need to determine your body type before treatment. Typically, treatments consist of acupuncture and herbal prescription. A course of 10 sessions costs $1200 (excluding medication).

Hope this helps & all the best!

  13. Hi i would like ask is it normal for 3 days menstruated to be lasted, as i having backaching for the past few days during my period. Please kindly let me know thank you.

    1. Hello Cherie,

It is entirely normal for menstruation to last for 3 days. It is also normal to have a backache during menstruation. However, if the backache is too intense, making it uncomfortable for work etc., it’ll be better to do a consultation with a physician!

      Hope this helps!

  15. Hi there, can TCM help with chronic gastritis, acid reflux, and healing of the oesophagus that has slight corrosion due to the reflux? If it does, what are the treatment used?

    1. Hello Dee,

Yes. We can use herbal medication and acupuncture to alleviate the symptoms and slowly condition the body (subjected to your GP’s advice if you’re on western medication).

      1. Hi, I have been taking western medication but have stopped for about 2 weeks now. It helps but I still get reflux every now and then, therefore I’m thinking of giving herbal medication a try.

Seeing that I have stopped western medication for 2 weeks, would I still need to check in with my doctor for accupunture and herbal medication?

Also, from what is understand from western medicine, that apart from surgery, there is no way to strengthen the lower esophagus sphincter once it’s weakened. However, I read that accupunture can help with this?

Is there a physician in Pulse that specialises in chronic gastritis? Or would I be able to visit any of your locations?

        1. Hello Dee,

If you have stopped western medication for 2 weeks, it will be safe to come for Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine.

From TCM’s point of view, what you have described sounds like a lack of “Qi”. So acupuncture can potentially help improve the your esophagus sphincter pressure and function by nourishing and promoting the circulation of “Qi”. (Of course, we can only advise after a proper consultation & diagnosis).

A couple of recommended physicians for gastrointestinal issues will be Physician Chan Wei Loo & Physician Ardy Quek!

Acupuncture and moxibustion may be a suitable treatment for you. Like with any other enquiries, we can only be sure of the treatment to recommend after a consultation!

      Hope this helps!

  17. Hi, im just wondering how will Dang Gui affect a person who suffers from Low blood pressure? Not high but low. All the info i get always seem to be pointing at the benefits for high bp,

    thanks in advance!

    1. Hello Shay!

Herbs usually work in concoction, instead of singly. Dang Gui is a herb that helps relax smooth muscle in arteries. It works synergistically with other herbs to cope with low blood pressure. So a combination of herbs catered to each body type is recommended.

For any herbal usage, it may be better to consult a TCM physician!

  18. Hi PULSE Team

im not sure if the fistula will go away though, but i think i have blocked qi in my body..maybe a few. can the physician also remove the blocked qi?

    1. Physician Victoria Tan

      Hello Shar,

A fistula is too serious to use TCM. It is recommended to go for the surgery instead.

For your blocked ‘qi’, the physician will first have to diagnose the constitution before the use of acupuncture and medication. If you’re going ahead with the surgery, post-surgical conditioning with TCM will be recommended.

I hope this helps. We wish you a speedy recovery!

  27. Hi,

I have panic attacks, anxiety and depression. I am thinking if acupuncture helps.
There are times when I feel shortness of breathe, for instance, I am having the symptom for the past 3 weeks.
Western doctors said it is due to anxiety even though I dont feel anxious.
TCM physician told me it could be due to poor stamina and gastric issue.
I have gone through heart scanning and found out I have mild valve mitral prolapse (inherited) which doctor mentioned it is not a serious issue.

I am quite bothered by shortness of breathe as it affects my daily performance.

I have serious sweaty palms and feet (inherited) too. Can acupuncture helps too?

    Sorry for the many question.
    Thank you.

    1. Hey Sharon! No worries, it’s Ask Physician!

Our physicians have read through your concerns and have analysed your condition. The inherited hyperhidrosis (sweaty palms) is an indication of your weak immune (lung) constitution. The shortness of breath is a manifestation of the weaker functioning of the lungs and the heart.

It is advisable to consult our physicians who can suggest a treatment plan for you after a more thorough diagnosis. Do bring along any relevant medical reports with you!

    1. Hello Koh,

Oily skin type and flushing on cheek area can be caused by bodily internal imbalance. In this case, acupuncture can help to restore balance to your body and rebalance your hormonal systems. Besides, it also increases blood circulation to face and stimulates cells to produce collagen. This helps reduce express lines.

The number of sessions differs for every individual. Most patients require at least a course of 10 sessions. Hope this helps!

    1. Hey Susan! It’s advisable to skip Foot Reflexology during your first trimester.
