Cosmetic acupuncture, also known as facial acupuncture, is a means of targeted treatment administered by TCM physicians to manage skin health through localised and channelled healing.
The basis of healing comes from both external and internal regulation. Externally, the insertion of needles causes micro-trauma to the skin that releases electric impulses and localizes immune cells, enhancing the healing mechanism on the skin. Perforation also encourages the production of collagen and elastin fibres that fill up enlarged pores or uneven surfaces. Another effect is the renewal of epidermal cells. These cells store and maintain water and nutrient level underneath the skin, increasing dermal illuminance and elasticity. Internally, the physician will begin with a simple and thorough consultation session to qualify the imbalance of the body’s internal system. Thereafter, a diagnosis of the underlying condition is then tracked and taken care of through acupuncture along meridian pathways.
Our complexion is most affected by the health of the internal gut lining and hormones, among other factors. Any upset in the function of the gut processes and hormones is made prominent through face-mapping, and observations of the muscular tone, colour, texture, elasticity, pigmentation and blemishes.
Other than a clearer face, a winning distinction of TCM Facial Acupuncture is that it tones down the imperfections and boosts the deficiencies in the system to bring out a better complexion from within, striking a delicate balance inside out. This treatment is designed to rectify ailments internally, not just topically.
Should you have a bad acne breakout or serious eczema condition, the physician will not go near the active sites but the session will not be in vain. By administering acupuncture throughout the body, the underlying condition can be treated by the physician.
Who Should?
By its nature, acupuncture is an excellent method of health maintenance. The appearance of our complexion is not limited to specific facial conditions. A healthily regulated body such as having good sleep, smooth digestion, relaxed mood and balanced hormones helps everyone attain and maintain a better complexion and good deep skin health. This is why facial acupuncture has no exclusion.
Treatment Plan
While acupuncture is direct intervention, diet is key. This is why a combination of regular intake of TCM herbal medication ensures the gut is well taken care of and is complementary to acupuncture.
How Long?
Depending on the duration of the underlying ailment, treatment courses vary and 1 course of treatment is minimal to expect an improvement.

doesn’t it hurt? it looks like a needle
Hello there, acupuncture is performed using needles, and pain is definitely a concern for those who are trying it for the first time. Most people feel only minimal to no pain as the needles are inserted, some don’t even feel it! What you should feel is the sensation of “soreness/pulsing” instead of pain — but if you feel any discomfort, you can let the physician know and they can adjust it for you. We hope that helps!
