Press Lao Gong and Yong Quan for Heart-Kidney disharmony

Lao Gong (PC8) sits in the palm where the middle fingertip lands in a fist. Yong Quan (KD1) sits in the sole depression about one-third from toes to heel. One paired press when Heart and Kidney signs travel with insomnia.

In brief

When irritability, dizziness, heart palpitations, hot sweaty palms, tinnitus, aching knees or lower back, and/or night sweats sit with thin sleep, TCM may name a Heart-Kidney disharmony. Rub the right Lao Gong (PC8) on the left Yong Quan (KD1) clockwise and anticlockwise 100 times each, then swap sides. Lao Gong is where the middle fingertip lands in a fist; Yong Quan is the sole depression about one-third from toes to heel in plantar flexion.

The steps

  1. Find Lao Gong (PC8)

Make a soft fist. Lao Gong sits where the tip of the middle finger lands, between the second and third metacarpal bones in the palm. Feel for a tender hollow, not hard bone alone.

  2. Find Yong Quan (KD1)

Point the foot (plantar flexion). A slight depression appears on the sole about one-third of the distance from the toes to the heel. That hollow is Yong Quan.

  3. Right palm on left sole · 100 each way

Place the right Lao Gong on the left Yong Quan. Rub clockwise 100 times, then anticlockwise 100 times. Keep the pressure kind.

  4. Swap sides

Repeat with the left Lao Gong on the right Yong Quan, clockwise and anticlockwise 100 times each. Stop if pain sharpens or the foot or palm feels numb.
