Press head, hand, and limb points for paediatric migraine

Taiyang (EX-HN5), Feng Chi (GB20), and Shuai Gu (GB8) on the head; Wai Guan (SJ5) and He Gu (LI4) on the hands; Zu San Zhong, Ce San Li, and Ce Xia San Li on the lower limbs. Soft circular rubs for 2–3 minutes.

In brief

Educational self-press for paediatric migraine uses points on the head (Taiyang EX-HN5, Feng Chi GB20, Shuai Gu GB8), hands (Wai Guan SJ5, He Gu LI4), and lower limbs (Zu San Zhong, Ce San Li, Ce Xia San Li). Rub in soft circles for about two to three minutes; a mild ache at the point is expected. Stop on sharp pain, broken skin, or sudden neurological red flags. This is home care between visits, not urgent care for worst-ever headache.

  • Soft circles at Taiyang (EX-HN5) and related head points for 2–3 minutes.

Routine

The steps

  1. Head points

Taiyang (EX-HN5 · 太阳) sits in the temple hollow beside the outer eye corner. Feng Chi (GB20 · 风池) sits in the hollows at the base of the skull between trapezius and sternocleidomastoid. Shuai Gu (GB8 · 率谷) sits about 1.5 cun above the tip of the ear, in a depression on the side of the head. Circle each kindly for about one minute.

  2. Hand points

Wai Guan (SJ5 · 外关) sits on the outer forearm, about two finger-widths above the wrist crease between the radius and ulna. He Gu (LI4 · 合谷) sits in the fleshy web between thumb and index finger. Soft circles only; avoid pressing into joints hard.

  3. Lower-limb points

Zu San Zhong (足三重), Ce San Li (侧三里), and Ce Xia San Li (侧下三里) sit on the lateral lower leg in the teaching set shown on the paediatric migraine Insight diagram. Locate from the diagram your physician showed, then circle softly for about one minute each.

  4. Method and stop cues

Rub in circular motions for two to three minutes whenever migraine discomfort builds. A mild soreness at the point is expected. Ease off if the press turns sharp, the skin is broken, or numbness spreads. Seek urgent help for sudden worst-ever headache, one-sided weakness, vision loss, fever with stiff neck, or headache after trauma.

Try today Locate Taiyang at the temple, then Feng Chi at the nape, and circle kindly for two to three minutes when a migraine builds.

FAQs

Quick questions

How long should I press each point?

Soft circular rubs for about two to three minutes in total across the chosen points is the educational habit from this set. A mild ache at the point is expected; sharp pain is a stop cue.

Which points are on the head?

Taiyang (EX-HN5) in the temple hollow, Feng Chi (GB20) in the nape hollows, and Shuai Gu (GB8) above the tip of the ear on the side of the head.

Are these the same as the adult ice glide from Taiyang to Yintang?

No. That Bite uses an ice glide from Taiyang to Yintang. This set uses circular press across head, hand, and lower-limb points suited to the paediatric migraine teaching diagram.

When should I seek urgent care instead of self-press?

Seek urgent help for sudden worst-ever headache, fever with stiff neck, vision loss, weakness on one side, confusion, collapse, or headache after trauma.
