Ingredients

  • whole chicken, cleaned 1 kg
  • Gastrodia elata 15 g
    天麻, Tian Ma
  • Ligusticum striatum 15 g
    川芎, Chuan Xiong
  • red dates 10 g
    红枣, Hong Zao
  • goji berry 6 g
    枸杞, Gou Qi
  • old ginger 6 g
    姜, Jiang
  • water enough to cover
  • salt ½ teaspoon
  1. Prep

    Rinse all ingredients. Clean the chicken and remove remaining innards or unwanted parts. Break red dates into halves or slices. Slice old ginger thinly.

  2. Combine

    Place chicken, Tian Ma, Chuan Xiong, dates, goji, and ginger in a soup pot. Pour in enough water to cover all ingredients.

  3. Simmer

    Bring to a boil on high heat, then turn to medium-low. Skim off the foam. Cook for about one hour.

  4. Season

    Turn off the heat. Season with half a teaspoon of salt. Serve warm. Educational rhythm: once a fortnight or whenever migraine hits.
