Bai Zhi and Man Jing Zi decoction for mild headache

Dahurian angelica (白芷, Bai Zhi) opens the face and head. White chrysanthemum (白菊花, Bai Ju Hua) clears wind-heat. Vitex fruit (蔓荆子, Man Jing Zi) settles a heavy, windy head. Liquorice (甘草, Gan Cao) rounds the pot. A kitchen decoction when mild headache builds with viral load.

In brief

Soak 9 g Bai Zhi, 6 g Bai Ju Hua, 6 g Man Jing Zi, and 3 g Gan Cao for 30 minutes. Bring to a medium boil, cover, and simmer on low for 15 minutes. Drink warm twice daily. In TCM this blend is often used for a mild frontal or wind-heat headache. Food therapy only; not care for sudden worst-ever pain.

FAQs

Quick questions

How is this different from chrysanthemum white peony tea?

That cup steeps Ju Hua, Bai Shao, and Gan Cao for a Liver-linked tension or heaty head. This pot simmers Bai Zhi, Bai Ju Hua, Man Jing Zi, and Gan Cao for a milder wind-heat or flu-season frontal ache. Match the cup to the picture in front of you.

Can I press He Gu with this decoction?

Many people pair the pot with He Gu (LI4) thumb massage on both hands. Skip He Gu if there is any chance of pregnancy.

Does this treat COVID-19?

No. It is kitchen food therapy for mild headache comfort beside rest and medical advice. It does not replace testing, antivirals, or urgent care.
