Chinese snow pear apricot kernel soup

雪梨南北杏汤 · Snow pear with sweet and bitter apricot kernels and figs. Moistens the Lungs and clears heat for dry, heaty cough patterns.

In brief

Chinese snow pear almond soup uses snow pear (雪梨), sweet apricot kernels (南杏), bitter apricot kernels (北杏), and figs. In TCM food therapy it nourishes Yin, moistens the Lungs, clears heat, and helps resolve phlegm in dry or heaty cough patterns. Bitter kernels must be cooked; do not eat them raw in quantity.

FAQs

Quick questions

What is the difference between sweet and bitter apricot kernels?

Bitter kernels (北杏) have a stronger anti-asthmatic and laxative effect and must be cooked. Sweet kernels (南杏) are more nourishing for dry Lungs and are not toxic in the same way. They are often used together.

Is this the same as snow fungus pear soup?

No. Snow fungus pear soup uses snow fungus with pear, goji, and dates. This pot uses snow pear with Nan Xing, Bei Xing, and figs, without fungus.
